Flower Care Instructions

Each Bloomen arrangement arrives carefully wrapped, including both flower food and flower-care instructions. In this blog, we’ve expanded a bit on those recommendations. Keep reading to learn about Bloomen’s recommendations for extending the life of your blooms.

The first step is to make sure you’re working with a clean vase. The cleaner the vase, the longer your blooms will last, as the less opportunity bacteria will have to thrive in your vase, the better!

We keep our blooms hydrated in our design warehouse (and arrangements that arrive in vases already have food and water) but they’ll still get thirsty! Keep an eye on the water level, and trim the stems a bit each day. We strongly recommend cutting the stems at an angle, to increase the surface area for water absorption. If you see leaves below the water line, go ahead and remove them. They’ll decompose, causing rot and encouraging bacterial growth, which will shorten the lifespan of your blooms.

Keep the vase about ½ to ⅔ filled with water, and  when the water becomes discoloured, change it. Dirty water will block the stems and hamper hydration. Be sure to add plant food each time you re-fill. Lightly spray down the petals from time to time to keep your stems looking fresh, and remove any buds that are clearly past their prime.

Last but not least, keep your flowers in a cool area away from direct sunlight. Don’t put them near radiators, computers, televisions, fireplaces, ovens or ripening fruit.
