Gift of Giving: Salvation Arm Family Life Resource Centre

Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre (FLRC) is an emergency, short-term shelter for women and children escaping family violence. They offer strictly confidential no-cost support and services in Brampton. They empower women to live a life free of violence and intimidation. Bloomen was so moved by this mission that we dedicated our 2019 giving efforts to supporting this vital cause.

Working together with Neha Chopra of Sawc Planners we put together an event for the women and children who receive services from FLRC. We joined forces with many of our industry colleagues to create a fun and memorable evening for these families. Event Rent helped us gather all the tables and tablecloths, and even provided Santa’s Chair because the original wouldn’t quite fit in the sleigh!

We filled the room with snacks and treats including a sweet table with cupcakes, cookies, pretzel sticks, a charcuterie table with fresh meats, cheeses, crackers, fruits and vegetables. DestaWed provided cotton candy, popcorn, giant Jenga and colouring station to drive home the festive feel.

Over the course of the evening, we held a floral design workshop where our designers taught how to design their own floral arrangement; they reviewed how to select flowers and greens, cutting stems to the appropriate height, and placing & arranging the blooms to make a beautiful bouquet. Several of our MUA colleagues provided makeovers, and showed the participants some great makeup tips. Then, the amazing folks at Stack IT Recruitment gave some invaluable interview tips to help the participants land a great job that will help support their continued growth.

We had an incredible evening giving back, and having fun with the FLRC. In addition to the event itself, it was important to us to also provide some necessities to the participants. We originally set a goal of $10,000 in donations, and we were blown away when we surpassed that goal and raised over $15,000 in gift cards! We can’t wait for next year.

If you feel you are in an abusive relationship or are questioning how you are being treated by your partner, please call 905-451-4115 to speak with one of the professional staff at FLRC.
